03Why K&H
Farm roots, big equipment and an owner who runs the job. Kory walks the ground, digs the test holes and runs the machine himself, from the first estimate to the final grade.
Kory on a dirt site: the owner is the operatorMost of the big excavating outfits around here focus on county and state contracts. Pond building, pond dredging and lake work is our focus, so your project gets a team that actually wants it, not one squeezing it in between road jobs.
K&H Excavating is owner-operated. Kory Stone handles your estimate, runs the equipment and walks the finished job with you, so there are no salespeople and no runaround. Calls and texts are welcome Monday through Saturday, 8am to 6pm.
We run full-size excavators and dozers, not small skid steers, plus our own trucks for hauling debris. That means bigger ponds, larger clearing tracts and real demolition projects get done efficiently and done right.
We come from farming and raising cattle in Parke County, so we understand fields, fence lines, livestock water and how Indiana ground behaves from season to season. As pond excavation contractors with farm roots, we build ponds that fit the way you actually use your land.
Every estimate is free, with no obligation. We accept cash, check and all major credit cards, so paying for your project is simple.
04About K&H
Dozer shaping a new pond basin
Silted-in farm pond before dredgingK&H Excavating LLC is owned and operated by Kory Stone, who comes from a farming background in Parke County, raising cattle and working the same kind of ground you're trying to improve. Kory ran excavating equipment alongside the farm for years before launching K&H Excavating in January 2024, and today the business is full-time dirt work based in Rosedale, Indiana. We work for private landowners, farmers and ranchers, especially anyone with 10 acres or more, along with commercial and agricultural clients who need demolition done right. When you call K&H, you talk to the owner, and the owner is on your job site.
As pond excavation contractors, we've built our business around the work most big outfits don't chase: new pond construction, pond and lake dredging, and ongoing silt pond maintenance. We also handle commercial and agricultural demolition, large-acreage land clearing, site preparation and general excavation with our own excavators, dozers and haul trucks. We don't bring small skid steers to big jobs, and we don't cut corners on the dam, the spillway or the cleanup. Every estimate is free, and calls and texts are always welcome.
05How it works
Whether you're digging a new farm pond or bringing an old one back to life, every K&H project follows the same five steps, so you always know what's happening on your land.
Kory comes out, walks your property and listens to what you want the pond, lake or site to do, whether that's livestock water, fishing, swimming, wildlife or clearing the way for what comes next. We look at the soil, drainage, water source and equipment access, then give you a free, no-obligation estimate. Call or text, whichever is easier for you.
Before a machine moves, we map out the size and depth, where the dam and spillway go, and where the spoil dirt will end up. For dredging jobs, we plan how the pond will be drawn down and where the removed silt will be spread or hauled. If your project may need county or state approval, we'll point that out up front so there are no surprises.
We haul our excavators and dozers to your site and set up for the job, whether you're 10 miles from Rosedale or 75. We schedule around Indiana weather. Summer and fall are prime pond-digging months, and the frozen ground of winter is often the best time for land clearing and demolition.
This is where the dirt moves. For a new pond, we excavate the basin, build and compact the dam, and shape the slopes and spillway. For pond dredging, we remove built-up silt and sediment to restore depth and holding capacity, and demolition and clearing jobs get the same heavy equipment and our own haul trucks.
We spread or haul off the spoils, rough-grade the disturbed ground and leave your site clean. Then we walk the finished project with you to make sure it's exactly what you asked for before we pack up.

08Questions
The cost to build a pond depends mainly on its size and depth, your soil type, how much dirt has to move, and whether you need a dam, spillway or overflow pipe. A small farm pond and a multi-acre lake are very different projects, and ground with good clay content is much cheaper to build on than sandy or rocky soil. Equipment access and what happens to the excavated dirt also affect the price. The fastest way to get a real number is a free on-site estimate, where we walk your property and give you a clear quote. Our Pond Construction Cost Guide covers each cost factor in more detail.
The best way to dig a pond starts with choosing the right spot: a natural low area with clay soil and a dependable water source such as runoff, a spring or a drainage path. From there, the basin is excavated, a core trench is cut and filled with compacted clay, and the dam is built up in layers so it holds water without seeping. A properly sized spillway protects the dam during heavy rain. For anything bigger than a garden pond, it pays to hire a contractor who builds ponds regularly with full-size excavators and dozers.
Dredging a 1-acre pond is priced mostly by how much sediment has to come out and how far it has to move. A pond with a foot or two of soft muck costs less to clean out than one that has filled halfway with silt over decades. Access around the bank, whether the pond can be drawn down, and whether the spoils can be spread on your property or need to be hauled away all affect the price. We'll check the sediment depth during your free estimate and give you a clear price, and our Pond Dredging Cost Guide explains each factor.
For most farm and rural ponds, the most effective method is mechanical dredging with an excavator, often after the water level is lowered so the equipment can reach the sediment. This removes heavy silt and muck quickly and lets you deepen or reshape the pond at the same time. The removed material is usually spread to dry on nearby ground or hauled off site. Hydraulic dredging can make sense on very large lakes, but for most ponds, mechanical dredging is faster and more cost-effective.
It depends on how much land drains into the silt pond and how much soil that runoff carries. In farm country, silt ponds that protect a lake can fill quickly after heavy spring rains, and many need cleaning out once or twice a year. Regular inspections (quarterly is a good rule of thumb) catch a filling basin before sediment spills over into the main lake. Our Silt Pond Maintenance Plans handle those inspections and the pond silt removal on a set schedule for one yearly fee.
The cost to demolish a commercial building depends on its size, how it's built (wood frame, steel or block), how much concrete is in the foundation and slab, and how much debris has to be hauled away. Site access, nearby structures and utility disconnects also affect the price. Federal rules generally require an asbestos inspection before a commercial building comes down, so plan for that step as well. We'll give you a free estimate that covers demolition, loading and hauling with our own trucks.
The cost to clear 5 acres of land depends on how dense the trees and brush are, how big the timber is, how many stumps need to come out, the terrain, and what happens to the debris. Lightly overgrown pasture costs much less per acre than mature woods. Larger tracts are usually more cost-effective per acre because the equipment is already on site and working at full capacity. We clear with excavators and dozers rather than small skid steers, and we'll give you a free on-site estimate for your property.
Basement excavation cost depends on the footprint and depth of the hole, the soil and any rock we run into, and whether the excavated dirt stays on site for backfill and grading or has to be hauled off. Tight access and high groundwater can add time to the job. Because every lot is different, the most accurate way to get a number is a free on-site estimate. We'll review your plans, look at the ground and give you a straightforward price.
