Rosedale, IN Excavation & Pond Building Services

Rosedale is home. K&H Excavating is based in town, in Florida Township at the south end of Parke County, less than a mile from Big Raccoon Creek and a short run from the Vigo County line. Owner Kory Stone grew up farming and running cattle, and the company was started here in January 2024 to do heavy dirt work for Parke County landowners: new ponds, pond and lake dredging, silt pond cleanouts, land clearing, demolition and site prep with full-size excavators and dozers.

Parke County is good pond country. The uplands carry a cap of wind-blown silt over glacial till, and the Wisconsin glacial boundary crosses this part of Indiana, so the ground changes from the older, more weathered till south of the line to the younger till north of it. Big Raccoon Creek drains the middle of the county on its way from Raccoon Lake (Cecil M. Harden Lake) to the Wabash River, and the valleys along it and along Sugar Creek to the north are where most of the county's 31 covered bridges still stand. Between the creek bottoms and the farm fields on top, there is plenty of ground that will hold a pond and plenty of old ponds that have silted in.

Because Rosedale is where we start every morning, Parke County jobs get the shortest drive and the most flexible scheduling we offer. A quick pond cleanout, a fence line that needs clearing or an old barn that needs to come down is as easy for us to fit in here as a multi-week pond build.

Services

Our Services in Rosedale, IN

Every service K&H Excavating offers starts in Rosedale and reaches the whole of Parke County. We bring our own excavators, dozers and haul trucks and focus on the work that needs them: new ponds, dredging, silt pond upkeep, land clearing, demolition and site prep.

Pond Construction in Rosedale

Farm ponds, fishing ponds and stock ponds are our main work, and Parke County is where it starts. The silty clay subsoil on the uplands between Rosedale and Rockville holds water well once it is keyed in and compacted in lifts, while ground close to Big Raccoon Creek and the Wabash can run to sand and gravel that needs a compacted clay core. Kory sizes each pond to the land and the watershed and builds it to work for cattle, fish and drainage.

Pond Dredging Services in Rosedale

A lot of Parke County ponds were dug decades ago and have never been cleaned out. Silt washing off fields, pasture and gravel lanes slowly turns a deep pond shallow, weedy and warm. We dig the muck out with excavators working from the bank, restore the original depth and spread or haul the spoils so the property looks finished. Being based in Rosedale means we can often fit a pond cleanout in between larger jobs.

Lake Dredging in Rosedale

Private lakes and larger impoundments around Parke County fight the same sediment load that fills Raccoon Lake's coves, where Big Raccoon Creek drops what it carries off the farm ground upstream. We remove built-up sediment at inlets, coves and shallow ends with excavators, and we can phase a lake job across a season. Lake work can run for weeks, so we schedule around the wet spring and do the heavy digging when the banks firm up.

Silt Pond Maintenance & Pond Silt Removal in Rosedale

Silt ponds and sediment basins catch dirt before it reaches a lake, a creek or a drainage ditch, and once they fill they stop doing their job. We offer scheduled maintenance plans for lake associations, farms and property owners across Parke County, with regular inspections and cleanouts timed so the basin keeps working. It is simple work for us when the pond is close to home, which in Rosedale it usually is.

Demolition Contractors in Rosedale

Old barns, grain bins, outbuildings, worn-out farmhouses and concrete slabs come down with our excavators, and the debris leaves on our own trucks. Parke County has plenty of ag buildings that have outlived their use, from the farms around Rosedale and Coxville to the acreage out toward Bridgeton and Mecca. Indiana requires an asbestos inspection before demolition and a 10 working day notice to IDEM, and we build that into the schedule.

Land Clearing Services in Rosedale

We clear land with excavators and dozers, not a skid steer and a mulching head, which is why we are the call for the wooded ravines, grown-over fence rows and brushy pasture that Parke County has in abundance. The timber along Big Raccoon Creek and the hollows north toward Turkey Run State Park are the kind of ground we are built for. January through March, when the ground is frozen, is often the best time to clear because the machines travel without rutting.

Site Preparation Contractors in Rosedale

Before a pole barn, shop, cattle facility or new house goes up, the site has to be cleared, stripped and shaped so water moves away from the building. On Parke County's rolling ground that means reading the slope and the drainage, not just leveling a pad. We handle the clearing and dirt work that gets a building site ready around Rosedale, Rockville and the rest of the county, so your builder starts on solid ground.

Excavating Contractors in Rosedale

For bigger dirt jobs, K&H Excavating brings the same full-size excavators and dozers we use on ponds. We dig basements for new homes on rural lots, move and shape dirt, cut drainage ways and handle general excavation for landowners and farms across Parke County. We do not do utility or septic trenching, so we stay focused on the large-scale earthwork we do best.

Local knowledge

Local Expertise in Rosedale — We Know This Ground

Rosedale sits where the Wabash River valley meets the Parke County uplands. Head north on US-41 toward Rockville and you climb onto farm ground with a silt cap over glacial till. Drop down toward Big Raccoon Creek, the Wabash or the old terraces along the river and you hit sand and gravel that drains fast and will not hold a pond without a compacted clay core. South and east, toward the Vigo and Clay county lines, the ground turns to old strip-mine spoil, where the surface was reclaimed over mixed shale and sandstone and behaves differently from native soil. We check what is under the sod before we commit to a depth.

We know the roads because we drive them every day. US-41 is our main route north to Rockville and south to Terre Haute. US-36 runs east and west across the middle of the county through Rockville and Montezuma, and the county roads that follow Big Raccoon Creek take us to Bridgeton, Mansfield and the Roseville Covered Bridge just north of town. For Turkey Run State Park and the farm ground up around Marshall and Bloomingdale, we come up through Rockville. Moving excavators and dozers is simple when the drive is short, and from Rosedale nothing in Parke County is far.

This is farm and cattle country, and most of the work follows it. Livestock operations need stock ponds that hold water through a dry August. Row-crop farms have old ponds and sediment basins that fill with silt every wet spring. Older farmsteads have barns and outbuildings that need to come down, and wooded ravines that have crept into pasture need to be pushed back. Around Raccoon Lake, lakefront and lake-area properties have private ponds and coves that silt in and need dredging.

We also know the rules. A pond that disturbs one acre or more falls under IDEM's Construction Stormwater General Permit, and pond building is not covered by the farming exemption. Most farm ponds stay well under IDNR's dam safety thresholds (20 feet high, 100 acre-feet of storage or a square mile of drainage), but anything near the Big Raccoon Creek or Wabash River floodway can need state review. We call Indiana 811 before every dig, and we plan around the seasons: frozen ground in January through March for clearing and demolition, then summer and fall for pond digging.

Why K&H

Why Rosedale and Parke County Landowners Choose K&H Excavating

Your Neighbor, Not a Crew From Out of Town

K&H Excavating is based in Rosedale. Kory comes from farm and cattle country, knows the ground and the roads here, and is the person who quotes your job, shows up for it and runs the machine.

Real Equipment for Real Acreage

We run full-size excavators and dozers with our own haul trucks, not a skid steer with a brush cutter. That is what it takes to dig a pond right, clear a wooded ravine or take down a barn and haul it away.

Ponds Are the Main Job, Not a Side Job

Building, dredging and maintaining ponds is what we spend our season doing. When you hire K&H as your excavating contractor in Rosedale, you get a crew that builds ponds to hold water, not just to look good on day one.

A Farmer's Eye for Parke County Ground

Kory has farmed and run cattle his whole life, so he understands drainage, livestock water and how this county's silt and clay behave in a wet spring and a dry August.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions — Rosedale, IN

How much does it cost to build a pond in Rosedale?

Pond cost depends on size, depth, soil, access for equipment and what happens to the dirt we dig out. Parke County's silty clay uplands usually seal well, which helps keep costs down, while sand and gravel ground near Big Raccoon Creek or the Wabash can need a compacted clay core. We give free on-site estimates anywhere in Parke County, and from Rosedale we can usually come out fast. Our pond construction cost guide walks through each factor.

How much does pond dredging cost in Rosedale?

Dredging cost comes down to how much silt is in the pond, the pond's size, whether we can draw the water down and where the spoils go. A farm pond that has filled in over 30 years is a different job than a quick inlet cleanout. Many Parke County ponds have never been dredged and carry several feet of muck. We will walk the pond with you, probe the sediment depth and give you a free estimate.

Do I need a permit to build a pond on my property in Parke County?

It depends on the size and location. If the project disturbs one acre or more, IDEM's Construction Stormwater General Permit applies, and pond building is not covered by the farming exemption. Most farm ponds fall below IDNR's dam safety thresholds, but a pond near the Big Raccoon Creek or Wabash River floodway can need state review. We will walk you through what applies to your property during your free estimate.

Will a pond hold water on my ground near Rosedale?

Usually, but it depends on where you are. The uplands between Rosedale and Rockville have a silty clay subsoil that holds water once it is compacted. Ground close to Big Raccoon Creek, the Wabash River or the old river terraces can be sand and gravel that drains too fast without a clay core, and reclaimed strip-mine ground toward the Vigo and Clay county lines is its own case. We check the soil before we set a depth so your pond holds water the first year and every year after.

Do you tear down old barns and outbuildings around Rosedale?

Yes. Barns, grain bins, sheds, old farmhouses and concrete slabs are regular work for us in Parke County. We take them down with excavators and haul the debris off with our own trucks. Indiana requires an inspection by a licensed asbestos inspector before demolition, and IDEM must be notified at least 10 working days before work starts, so plan a little lead time. Call for a free estimate.

How much does land clearing cost per acre near Rosedale?

Per-acre cost depends on how thick the trees and brush are, the size of the timber and whether debris is burned, buried or hauled. Because we clear with excavators and dozers, we are the best value on larger tracts like the wooded ravines along Big Raccoon Creek or grown-over pasture out toward Bridgeton and Mecca. Winter clearing on frozen ground can save time and limit rutting. We give free estimates after walking the property.

Do you work in Rockville, Clinton and Brazil?

Yes. Rockville is a short drive north on US-41, Clinton is just across the Wabash in Vermillion County, and Brazil is east over the Clay County line. All three are well inside our closest territory, along with Montezuma, Bridgeton, Marshall and the rest of Parke County. For properties farther out, see our service areas page or just call and ask. We will give you a straight answer.
