Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to the questions we hear most from landowners, farmers, and property owners around Rosedale and west central Indiana. If yours isn't here, call or text (765) 548-3704.
01
Getting an Estimate
Do you charge for estimates?
No. Estimates from K&H Excavating are free. We'll look at the property, talk through what you want done, and give you a price for the work.
What should I have ready when I reach out?
It helps to know where the property is, what you'd like done, and roughly how big the area is, whether that's acres to clear or the size of a pond. If you can text a few photos of the site, that gives us a head start before we come out.
Why can't you give me a price over the phone?
Every property is different. Soil, slope, water, access for equipment, how much material has to be moved or hauled, and the drive from Rosedale all affect the cost. Two jobs that sound the same on the phone can look very different on the ground. Seeing the site lets us give you a number we can stand behind.
Will I be dealing with the owner?
Yes. Kory Stone owns K&H Excavating and handles estimates himself, so the person you talk to about your project is the person responsible for getting it done.
02
Service Area
How far will you travel for a job?
Most of our work is within about 50 miles of Rosedale. For larger projects, we'll travel up to around 75 miles, which reaches Terre Haute, Bloomington, Lafayette, and Indianapolis. The bigger the job, the more sense it makes to haul equipment farther. See our service areas page for more.
Do you work in Illinois?
Yes. Rosedale is close to the state line, and we take on projects in eastern Illinois.
03
Equipment and Scope
What kind of equipment do you use?
We run excavators and dozers. We don't use skid steers for our land clearing work. Our focus is larger projects where heavier machines can move more material and get the job done right.
Who do you typically work for?
Most of our customers are private landowners with 10 or more acres, along with farmers and ranchers. We also work for commercial property owners, especially on demolition projects. Our equipment is best suited to bigger properties and bigger jobs.
Are there jobs you don't take on?
Yes. We don't build driveways, and we don't trench for utility lines or septic systems. If you need that work, we'd rather tell you upfront than take on something outside what we do best.
04
Scheduling and Weather
When is the best time of year to build a pond?
Summer and fall are usually the best stretch for pond digging in Indiana. Spring tends to be wet, which can slow pond work down. In a mild winter, when the ground stays workable, pond work can still move ahead.
Do you work through the winter?
Often, yes. January through March can bring frozen or difficult ground, but winter is also a good time for land clearing and demolition. Some properties are easier to get into once the ground has firmed up.
What happens if it rains during my project?
Rain can delay dirt work, especially in spring. Running heavy equipment on saturated ground can do more harm than good. When weather holds a job up, we pick it back up as soon as conditions allow.
